18.12.2007 Engineers Without Borders and others have bagged the prestigious Mondialogo Award for developing a low cost solar powered lantern. This new technology will not only help improve the quality of life of the poor in the developing world, but also decrease global dependence on petroleum along with reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

17.12.2007 Grazie allo sforzo congiunto dell'Europa e dei Paesi in via di sviluppo è stato evitato un passo indietro nella lotta ai cambiamenti climatici: gli USA sono stati isolati e costretti a ritrattare le loro posizioni": così Legambiente commenta le conclusioni della XIII Conferenza internazionale sui cambiamenti climatici (Cop 13) tenutasi a Bali. L'accordo di compromesso per non emarginare del tutto gli Stati Uniti non indica nel documento finale l’obiettivo di riduzione dei gas serra dal 20% al 40% entro il 2020. I firmatari dell'accordo riconoscono la necessità di finanziamenti dai Paesi ricchi a quelli poveri e in via di sviluppo per metterli in grado di fronteggiare i disastri naturali e gli effetti del riscaldamento globale. Il Fondo di adattamento stabilito da Kyoto (oggi di 37 milioni di euro) comincerà a funzionare dal prossimo anno, ma la sfida è arrivare a un fondo di 207 milioni di euro.
