19.09.2006 Lukuisat kansalaisjärjestöt yli 70 maasta ovat allekirjoittaneet julkilausuman, jossa vaaditaan Maailmanpankilta ja Kansainväliseltä valuuttarahastolta muutoksia. Vaatimuksiin kuuluu kehitysmaiden velkojen mitätöinti, rahoituslaitosten hankkeiden läpinäkyvä arviointi ja uusliberaalin politiikan lopettaminen. Attac haluaa liittymisellään korostaa, että myös Suomessa on keskusteltava näiden vaikutusvaltaisten instituutioiden asemasta ja oikeutuksesta.

Proteste a Singapore al meeting Fmi-BM
18.09.2006 L'azione di protesta da parte delle Ong internazionali dei seminari programmati con Banca mondiale (BM) e Fondo monetario internazionale (FMI) agli incontri annuali delle due istituzioni, ha portato l'Unione europea e lo stesso presidente della Banca mondiale, Paul Wolfowitz, a stigmatizzare la condotta del governo di Singapore che, nei giorni scorsi è tornato sulle proprie decisioni autorizzando l'ingresso di 22 dei 27 attivisti che erano stati banditi dalla città asiatica. Nella lista nera delle autorità erano finiti anche due italiani, Antonio Tricarico ed Elena Gerebizza di Crbm/Manitese. "Troppo tardi" - commentano le Ong che all'apertura del contro-forum di Batam, isoletta indonesiana a poche miglia da Singapore, avevano lanciato il loro boicottaggio agli incontri di BM e FMI. Tra le principali questioni in agenda negli incontri delle due istituzioni la revisione delle quote di potere dei Paesi membri del FMI: il sistema della distribuzione dei voti non permette ai Paesi in via di sviluppo di avere voce in seno all'istituzione.

18.09.2006 Argentiinan joulukuun 2001 talouskriisin syistä on esitetty monenlaisia teorioita. Runsaasta vastakkaisesta todistusaineistosta huolimatta muun muassa Kansainvälinen valuuttarahasto IMF (International Monetary Fund) on edelleen sitä mieltä, että pääasiallinen syy tilanteeseen oli maan yksityissektorin kyvyttömyys vähentää alijäämäänsä. Todisteet kuitenkin osoittavat, että kriisi johtui lainan kertymisen kierteestä.

07.09.2006 This autumn, the Global Month of Action will see millions of people in over a hundred countries unite again under the banner of the white band, as they stand up against poverty and renew the call for trade justice, debt cancellation and more and better aid. The Month begins on 14 September, as the IMF and World Bank meet in Singapore, and culminates on 17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, in a Global White Band Day.

05.09.2006 The Indian Finance Ministry has set up an expert group to look into the growing problem of agricultural indebtedness and suggest relief measures for distressed farmers across the country. The committee will also make recommendations on farmers’ demands for loan waivers, Indian Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told Parliament on August 24.
