25.05.2006 Fortissime proteste dei lavoratori tessili sono in corso da alcuni giorni in Bangladesh: le forze di sicurezza sono state inviate dal governo a presidiare gli stabilimenti tessili della capitale Dhaka dopo che negli ultimi giorni si sono succeduti scontri tra manifestanti e forze dell’ordine, nei quali ha trovato la morte almeno due lavoratori e ne sono rimasti feriti almeno altri cento. Il dispiegamento di forze, secondo l’esecutivo bangladese, è una misura preventiva per evitare nuove eruzioni di violenza e assalti alle fabbriche, dopo che almeno 14 stabilimenti tessili sono stati dati alle fiamme. Il governo ha fatto arrestare diversi sindacalisti: uno è stato rilasciato, ma altri sono stati bendati e torturati - riporta la Clean Clothes Campaign che da tempo ha richiamato l'attenzione sulla necessità di adottare misure strutturali che pongano fine alle continue violazioni dei diritti nel settore tessile dove i lavoratori sono costretti ad orari e condizioni di lavoro inumani e ricevono salari da fame. La Campgna invita a mandare una mail all'Ambasciata chiedendo che si ponga fine agli arresti arbitrari e alle torture e che si salvaguardino i diritti dei lavoratori.

La maggior parte dei finanziamenti per la ricerca in Italia ricorre alla sperimentazione animale. Noi come LAV cerchiamo di dialogare con questi interlocutori, ma allo stato attuale la maggior parte di coloro che danno i loro soldi a Telethon o ad altre fondazioni non sa come vanno le cose. Inoltre spesso ci si trova di fronte al ricatto morale del tipo: preferisci salvare la vita del topo o quella del bambino? Dando per scontato che la ricerca serva effettivamente alla salute umana, cosa sulla cui fondatezza potremmo discutere a lungo. Bisogna ricordare infatti che solo il 30% degli animali sono impiegati nella ricerca di base mentre la restante percentuale viene utilizzata per la ricerca applicata, rivolta essenzialmente all’immissione di prodotti sul mercato. Parlo naturalmente di prodotti dell’industria chimica, che comprendono farmaci, cosmetici, pesticidi, vernici, colle e plastiche. La presenza dei farmaci in questa lista può far credere che una qualche utilità esista nella vivisezione, ma in base a uno studio pubblicato l’anno scorso dalla Pfizer, è emerso che 4 farmaci su 5 precedentemente testati su animali e poi provati sull’uomo vengono scartati. Questo perché sugli esseri umani si rilevano degli effetti non riscontrati sugli animali. Quindi aldilà della prescindibilità di un prodotto – come possono i essere cosmetici, ad esempio, per i quali è legittimo chiedersi se vale la pena di sacrificare la vita di un animale – abbiamo a che fare con un metodo per niente affidabile.

Suomen ammattiliittojen Solidaarisuuskeskukselle antamansa ilmoituksen mukaan yhtiö ei ole toimittanut Burmaan tuotteitaan kesän 2003 jälkeen. Burma on maailman ainoana maana kansainvälisen työjärjestön ILO:n boikotissa. Myös Amer joutui vuonna 2001 ILO:n suositusta rikkovien yritysten mustalle listalle, jota kansainväliset ammattijärjestöt ylläpitävät.
