03.03.2008 I missionari dell'Aefjn (Africa Europe faith and justice network), una rete di 43 congregazioni religiose maschili e femminili presenti in Europa e in Africa hanno chiesto all'Unione Europea e agli Stati membri una moratoria di 5 anni sull'importazione di agrocarburanti da monocolture su larga scala e da qualunque forma di sostegno a tali colture in Africa. I missionari propongono di distinguere tra "agrocarburanti" e "biocarburanti", i due nomi dati ai carburanti prodotti dalla trasformazione di materiale vegetale vivente. Aefjn è a favore e mantiene il nome "biocarburanti" solo per i prodotti veramente sostenibili dalla produzione al consumo senza generare effetti negativi sull'ambiente e sulla società.
