27.08.2007 According to the UN Children’s Agency (UNICEF), the rains and cyclone in Pakistan have displaced more than 377,000 people. Tens of thousands of internally displaced people (IDPs) are now living in makeshift shelters, or in tents provided by the aid agencies.

Incendio in un bosco del Sud Italia - da Rainews24
23.08.2007 E' ancora allarme incendi nel Sud Italia con più di trenta interventi da parte dei vigili del fuoco di Calabria, Sicilia e Campania. Ieri un incendio doloso ha colpito la Riserva naturale marina di Torre Guaceto bruciando circa 100 ettari di canneto e macchia mediterranea. "Il ritardo dei comuni nella realizzazione del catasto delle aree percorse dal fuoco, soprattutto in Calabria e Sicilia, rappresenta un problema grave" – afferma Legambiente nel ribadire la necessità di intervenire in modo deciso sull’emergenza incendi praticando tolleranza zero verso i piromani. E la Lav ha chiesto al Ministro dell’Interno, Giuliano Amato, di dare disposizioni ai Prefetti affinché procedano al posto dei sindaci inadempienti alla mappatura delle zone incendiate e al Ministro della Giustizia, Clemente Mastella, di dare impulso alla magistratura inquirente affinché indaghi sui Comuni che non hanno provveduto alla realizzazione del catasto per individuare eventuali connivenze.

Gruppi armati a Mogadiscio
22.08.2007 Medici senza Frontiere (Msf) ha lanciato un appello a tutte le parti in conflitto affinché sia permesso l'accesso alle cure per i profughi di Mogadiscio e libertà di movimento per lo staff medico. "Con bombardamenti e sparatorie che si ripetono ormai quasi ogni giorno a Mogadiscio, le persone che avrebbero bisogno di assistenza medica hanno troppa paura per lasciare le loro case, il personale medico sta abbandonando la città e gli ospedali sono chiusi o appena funzionanti" - ha detto Christophe Fournier, Presidente internazionale di Msf. Ieri il Consiglio di sicurezza dell'Onu ha approvato all'unanimità la proroga per sei mesi della missione guidata dall'Unione africana in Somalia, ma dopo gli scontri frontali dei mesi scorsi, Mogadiscio è tornata nelle ultime settimane a essere teatro di quotidiani attacchi ed episodi di guerriglia condotti da gruppi antigovernativi.

Flood in Bangladesh
22.08.2007 Weeks of heavy rain flooded over 30 percent of the country and left hundreds of homeless in Bangladesh, which is experiencing some of the worst flooding in recent years and terribly affecting day to day life. The estimation shows around 10 percent of the country’s 80,000 primary schools had been affected due to floods.

Blast survivors are now on health risks
22.08.2007 ActionAid report on the explosion at an Indian army ammunitions base in South Kashmir, reflects on the impact of blast on the health of the people. It is found that the blaze left three out of four of the displaced ones suffering from sleep disorders. 64 per cent have respiratory tract infections induced by toxic smoke.

17.08.2007 Perun maanjäristyksessä on kuollut ainakin 450 ihmistä, loukkaantuneita on yli 1500 ja kymmeniätuhansia ihmisiä on jäänyt kodittomiksi. Punainen Risti aloitti torstaina avustustarvikkeiden kuljetukset. Järistysalueelle on toimitetu kahdella lentokoneella huopia, telttoja, sadesuojia ja vesiastioita 2000 perheelle.

10.08.2007 La situazione in Iraq è drammatica: la rete elettrica è prossima al collasso, mentre un terzo della popolazione è in stato d’emergenza umanitaria e almeno due milioni di persone hanno cercato rifugio dalle violenze fuggendo all’estero, cioè due mila iracheni in fuga ogni giorno. Intanto il parlamento iracheno non è riuscito ad approvare la legge sul petrolio e sul gas prima della pausa estiva malgrado le forti pressioni di Washington. "Ma è tutt’altro che una cattiva notizia dato che nel Paese si fa sempre più forte e diffusa l’opposizione a quella che oramai in molti considerano una minaccia significativa per gli interessi nazionali" - commenta 'Un ponte per...' che da tempo segue la vicenda a fianco dei sindacalisti locali e chiedendo all'Eni di non partecipare alla "svendita" del petrolio iracheno. Nei giorni scorsi il governo iracheno ha ordinato di considerare illegali le organizzazioni sindacali del settore e qualunque organismo che ad esse faccia riferimento.
