18.05.2007 Sri Lankan epävakaasta poliittisesta tilanteesta huolimatta 44 perheelle on rakennettu uusi koti SASKin yhteistyöhankkeen kautta. Sri Lanka kärsi pahoin vuoden 2004 tsunami-onnettomuudesta. Katastrofissa menehtyi lähes 40 000 ihmistä ja sadat tuhannet joutuivat jättämään kotinsa.

10.05.2007 Kirkon Ulkomaanapu (KUA) on myöntänyt 600 000 euroa käytettäväksi humanitaariseen apuun Somaliassa.
Ulkoministeriöltä saamallaan humanitaarisen avun tuella KUA avustaa kymmentä tuhatta kodeistaan paennutta somalialaista, joita varten perustetaan kaksitoista uutta evakkoleiriä.

09.05.2007 Tasavallan presidentti Tarja Halonen painotti Suomen Punaisen Ristin 130-vuotisjuhlaseminaarissa, että puolueettoman ja riippumattoman avustustyön toimintaedellytykset on pystyttävä takaamaan. "Tässä meillä on kansainväliselle yhteisölle erittäin tärkeä ja vaativa haaste", presidentti totesi.

03.05.2007 Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF) denuncia un rapido aumento della violenza contro i civili nella zona intorno a Bangolo, la “zona cuscinetto” soppressa la scorsa settimana tra le parti in conflitto nella Costa d'Avorio. La zona era sotto la responsabilità delle forze di peacekeeping delle Nazioni Unite e di truppe francesi e, nell'ambito di un piano di pace recentemente approvato, sta venendo disarmata. "Gruppi di banditi armati stanno moltiplicando i loro attacchi in questa zona e stanno imponendo una legge del terrore" - denuncia MSF. In molte occasioni le donne vengono stuprate nel corso degli attacchi. Nelle scorse settimane, il presidente ivoriano Laurent Gbagbo ha dichiarato che "la guerra civile è finita" ed è quindi cominciato lo smantellamento della zona-cuscinetto che dal 2003 separa la zona governativa meridionale dal nord del Paese controllato dai ribelli.

01.05.2007 Heavy loans, power, water shortage and natural disasters are driving farmers of many Indian states to suicide. The widows of these farmers are struggling hard to keep their farms running. Lack of knowledge and contacts, no support from male farmers, mostly relatives, and vulnerability to exploitation and cheating - for them now, it could be a losing battle.
